How can we help?

Answers to common questions about MiddleMark on iPhone and Android, and a real person when you need one.

Reporting a problem from the app? Settings › Report a Problem opens an email with your MiddleMark, iOS or Android and data versions, your phone model and any screenshots you add — nothing about you or your answers. On iPhone it also lists the categories and screens you pick, and Apple Intelligence can suggest them as you write. You see everything before you send it. Please don’t send us your answers or scores; we don’t need them.

Getting started
How does MiddleMark find my representatives?

Enter your five-digit ZIP code. MiddleMark matches it to your congressional district using a table built into the app. It never asks for your location, and your ZIP code is never sent to us.

Some ZIP codes span more than one district. When that happens, MiddleMark asks which part of the ZIP you’re in and shows each district’s current representative to help you choose. If a ZIP code can’t be placed, you can pick your state and your members of Congress instead. You can change your district any time in Settings › Your District.

How is my match score calculated?

Your answers to the scenarios in Your Values are compared with how each member of Congress actually voted on related roll calls — on your phone, never on a server. Every score shows the votes behind it, topic by topic, so you can check the reasoning yourself. The full method is in Settings › How Scoring Works.

Why is a member marked “unplaced” on a topic?

MiddleMark only places a member on a topic when there are enough recorded votes to go on. Not voting is never treated as a position, so a member without enough votes on a topic is marked unplaced rather than guessed at.

Where does the data come from?

From public records: roll-call votes and legislation from Congress.gov, the House Clerk and Senate.gov; floor statements from the Congressional Record on govinfo.gov; campaign money from Federal Election Commission filings; research reports from the Congressional Research Service; executive orders from the Federal Register; decisions from supremecourt.gov; and voting dates from state election offices. Every screen names its source.

MiddleMark publishes no facts of its own. Analysis the app adds is labeled as the app’s, and scenarios link to outside articles from more than one side — those are their publishers’ own work.

Your data and privacy
Does MiddleMark know what I believe?

No. Your answers are stored on your own devices and every score is worked out on your phone. There’s no account, no analytics and no tracking, and nothing you download says who you are. The full detail is in the Privacy Policy.

How do I get my answers on a new phone?

iPhone: leave Settings › Data & Sync › “Sync my answers across my devices” on, and sign in to the new iPhone with the same Apple Account, with iCloud Drive and iCloud Keychain (Passwords) turned on. Your answers are encrypted with a key kept in iCloud Keychain, so a device without it can’t read them. If you’ve turned sync off, export an encrypted backup file first (see below) and open it on the new iPhone.

Android: keep MiddleMark’s backup on and use a screen lock, so Android can back your answers up, end-to-end encrypted, to your Google account. Set up the new phone from that backup with the same Google account, then install MiddleMark, and your answers come back. Android restores them when the app is installed; it doesn’t sync between phones as you go.

App Lock and the elections you’ve marked as voted stay on each phone. Answers don’t carry over between an iPhone and an Android phone.

Can I undo a change, or keep my own copy?

On iPhone, yes. MiddleMark keeps encrypted backups from the end of the last day, week, month and quarter. In Settings › Data & Sync › Current & Earlier Backups you can restore one with Use This Backup, export any of them as an encrypted file, or open a backup file you saved earlier.

Backup files are locked with a password kept in your iCloud Keychain. You can view it after Face ID or your passcode and save it in the Passwords app, so you can open your files on a device without that keychain.

How do I erase my answers?

Go to Settings › Data & Sync › Erase All My Answers…. On iPhone, Erase Answers clears every answer and keeps your backups, and Erase Answers and All Backups also deletes every backup and everything in Trash, for good; with sync on, the erase reaches your other devices too. On Android, the next backup replaces the old copy. Quiz history stays; you can reset it in Learn’s Quiz Settings.

To remove everything, erase your answers (and, on iPhone, your backups), turn off sync or backup on each device, then delete the app. There’s nothing to delete on our side — we never had a copy.

How do I lock MiddleMark?

Turn on App Lock in Settings. You can unlock with Face ID or your fingerprint, your phone’s passcode, or a PIN you set for MiddleMark, and the app hides its contents in the app switcher (Recents on Android) while locked.

MiddleMark Plus
What does MiddleMark Plus add?

Your scores, races, deadlines, the money and all three branches are free for everyone. Plus opens every quiz question (free play stops at 20 a topic), every widget (election widgets stay free) and any accent colour. On iPhone, one subscription covers up to five family members through Family Sharing; Google Play doesn’t share subscriptions with family.

MiddleMark has no ads and sells no data, so Plus is how it’s paid for.

How do I restore, change or cancel my subscription?

iPhone: to restore it on a new iPhone, use Settings › MiddleMark Plus › Restore Purchases. To change plans or cancel, open Manage Subscription in the same place, or go to your Apple Account’s Subscriptions in the Settings app. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Android: Plus turns on by itself on any phone signed in to the same Google account, and Restore Purchases in Settings › MiddleMark Plus checks again. To change plans or cancel, open Google Play, tap your profile picture, then Payments & subscriptions › Subscriptions. Refunds are handled by Google Play under its refund policies.

Cancelling stops the next renewal; Plus stays on until the end of the period you’ve paid for. See the Terms of Use for the full subscription terms.

Does subscribing tell you who I am?

No. Apple or Google keeps your subscription record. MiddleMark only asks, on your phone, whether Plus is on — it never learns your name or email address, and your answers, ZIP code and quiz history stay private on your own devices.

Updates and devices
The data looks out of date. How do I update it?

MiddleMark checks for new data when you open it. On iPhone, data updates wait for Wi-Fi by default, so if you’ve mostly been on cellular, one may be waiting; in Settings › Data & Sync you can refresh right away or allow downloads over cellular.

Which devices does MiddleMark run on?

iPhone with iOS 26 or later, and Android phones with Android 11 or later. Some features are iPhone-only, including Siri and Shortcuts, Spotlight, on-screen awareness, Visual Intelligence lookups, Family Sharing for Plus, and the summaries written by Apple Intelligence, which need an iPhone that supports it.

On Android, downloading data updates needs a phone with a locked bootloader, running its maker’s software or a relocked system such as GrapheneOS.

Is MiddleMark partisan? Who makes it?

MiddleMark is independent and nonpartisan. It isn’t run, endorsed or funded by any government agency, party or candidate, and it doesn’t tell you who to vote for. It’s made by Kahcozi LLC, an independent software studio in California. Every score is built the same way for every member, from the public record.

To register, find where to vote or check your ballot, contact your state or local election office or visit vote.gov.
